I'm using an Icon set I found on Gnome-Look.com, which I enjoy. and there they are.

as you can tell I'm a Terry Bogard Fan (from Fatal Fury/King of Fighters SNK games) I really enjoy how I can customize practically every look of my system, and make it feel like its "Mine" you know? anyways, just wanted to show that off.

lets see, ahh Certifications. I'm gonna eventually get my Linux+ after my A+ of course, Cause I just love linux and everything about it, Free, Open-Source and just customizable. but I'm thinking I'll also get Ubuntu Certified as well, but only the LTS releases (6.06 and 8.04..etc) I see no point in getting books on the distro every six months, although it may prove to be helpful..lol, after messing w/ Debian the other day, and running into Video card Problems. It makes me wonder why people bash easier to use Linux Distros like Ubuntu and PCLOS for instance. why kill yourself trying to figure out why video cards arent working..when on Ubuntu you just click one thing? I dunno.

anywho, thats just a quick Linux/Ubuntu rant I suppose.

CPUs, PC Uses and Linux community on Ubuntu.

lets start off by with how fast technology is growing. I love technology, and at this point I'm attempting to study and get my A+(essentials/IT) and eventually my Linux+ and Networking+. but first thing first, Processors. I'm unfortunently still stuck in the single core age at the moment (AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2GHz Socket 939) which is still doing relatively well for me, But then again I'm not a PC gamer nor do I use a lot of programs that are CPU intensive, But I do wanna upgrade my aging 939 MoBo to a Dual-Core eventually, when I can find one at a decent price.

but any who, even though I'm just gonna be upgrading my PC at the moment to a Dual-Core, there is already Quad-core processors out now, the transaction came quick opposed to Single to Dual, its insane. but I'm excited about the advancement in tech. which is why I'm trying to get certified.

I'm mainly an AMD type guy, but I think once I do a new build and get a new Laptop I'm gonna go with Via processor , I realize they aren't the best or fastest CPU manufacturers around, but the small wattage footprint is very nice, I would love to go green with my computers (including getting the wife a new laptop) Neither me or my wife do intense computing, music, videos and internet mainly for us both. although she does play the sims 2 at times.. but no big deal.

As for PC users, okay I see people spending pointless prices on PCs sometimes. I realize you want the best thing out there at the time. but is it necessary? most of the time I have seen, no its not. like for instance my wifes parents have a PC w/ a celeron 1.1GHz w/ 512MB of ram, and it still does everything they need from a PC (although I think I'll upgrade their Video card for them..4MB on board is beyond ridiculous for anything). So eventually I would love to be able to build budget PCs for people based off the Via Processor and use Linux on it, most what people do can be accomplished on Linux with no problems. especially Ubuntu and the advancements Conotical(sp?) are trying w/ the Ubuntu project to make it user friendly through the GUI.

and that brings me around to Ubuntu and the Linux Community. Not everyone, but here I go. I'm not a Linux Power User by any means, although I'm getting there week by week. but, a lot of the Linux community looks down on Ubuntu because "Its to easy to use" or "Its for people new to linux". here is a news flash thats what its made for. and if you want Linux to be a new "windows" I suppose you could say, then a GUI based easy to use distribution is really the only alternative, no one wants to fight w/ a Operating System for hours to get stuff working (although the challenge can be fun to some..like myself) and a new user or someone that just wants to get on a PC, get on myspace and messenger and to check their Email, they don't want to have to fight w/ the Video Driver, Sound Driver..etc just for something that simple. so, before you go bashing, dont act like people are dumb because they use "Ubuntu" or they are a low class linux user, help and embrace them.

another thing about Linux is the many, many many distros available. I use a handful regularly, to keep things interesting, at the moment I'm running Ubuntu 8.04LTS and Puppy Linux 4.00 for a Live CD. Myself I prefer Debian and debian based distributions over RPM based..etc. but then again thats just preference anyway you look at it, Linux is Linux. mod it do with what you want.. but have fun and don't get frustrated (too much).

but the thing is, maybe there are too many distros and it scares people off. which is very understandable in my opinion, sure its just linux with a different face or package management, but if a average user sees this then he or she is gonna be set back, thinking wow there is way to much going on. and I agree with that. if the community came together to create and work on a few major distros more would get accomplished, and more users would migrate from other OSes. for instance there is tons of distros based on Ubuntu, which is fine.. but there is zero improvements more than not, only thing that changes are Icon, fonts and the colors used.. why? whats the point? you're using the same repositories and everything. why not just put your theme up on Gnome Look or KDE look?

but anyways, I think I've rambled enough for tonight. thanks for reading!

Blogging, New to me..somewhat!

I've been interested in Blogging for quite awhile now. Bah, I dunno. But, I have grown up a lot since those days, and I can talk more serious about stuff. okay, I can still be not so grown up about some things.. but that keeps me sane..in an insane world.

let me just throw out to you, the reader as to what I will be writing about. I enjoy a lot of stuff and I have a lot of stuff in my life at this moment. I have a baby on the way, which will be talked about a lot, I'm sure. mainly my blog is about life,Linux, computers and games.. and all between. if its on my mind and I want to talk about it, It'll be on here.

I'm gonna go ahead and end this first blog, but I'll be back real soon to let you into.. the world I revolve around.
